Revelation 17:14
the Lamb…is Lord of lords, and King of kings
Jesus claimed to be our King. He is not just a king, but He is the King of all kings. He stated that He had all the power of heaven and earth (Matthew 28:18). Paul describe Him as the only Potentate (1 Timothy 6:15).
Philippians 2:10
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
How powerful is our King? At the mere mention of His name, everything including all of heaven has to bow. What a Mighty God we serve!
Oddly, in the greatest prophecy foretelling His coming, Jesus is called the Prince of Peace. Why was He not called the King of Peace? How did the King become the Prince?
Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
This prophecy beautifully illustrates both the Deity and humanity of Christ. The son is the everlasting Father. The child is the mighty God.
While listing the attributes of our King, He is the Father, the mighty God, and the government rest totally on Him, the prophet proclaimed that peace would be won through the Prince. A Prince is the Son of the King. The everlasting Father would be born as a son to make peace.
Why do we need peace?
There is a battle that rages in the lives of all men. Our very souls are at stake. Lust wars against our souls and brings forth sin. Sin when it is finished brings death.
Who could pay our price, win victory over sin and death, save our souls, and finally bring peace? Certainly no man could, we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. There is none righteous, no not one. Was there any worthy?
Hebrews 2:14-18
Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
God became a man. He became like us so that we could become like Him. He partook of flesh and blood, that through death, He could deliver His children from bondage and fear.
The everlasting Father was born the Son of man so that He could lay down His life. The invisible was seen in the flesh. The giver of Life gave His life.
Colossians 1:14-15, 20-22
In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: who is the image of the invisible God…And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
Only through death could death be conquered. Only through His sorrow could we have peace. The chastisement of our peace was upon Him. He reconciled us in His body.
2 Corinthians 5:19
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them;
1 Timothy 3:16
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh
What a miracle! What a mystery! The Righteous One became sin for many so that many sinners could become righteous. The Immortal took on a mortal body so that mortals could one day take on immortality. The King (Father) brought peace by becoming a Prince (Son).
Ephesians 2:13-14
But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ. For he is our peace
